Declared a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO, this park of almost 30,000 hectares hidden in the Asturian mountains is home to landscapes of a beauty that is difficult to compare: lakes of glacial origin, oak and birch forests, summer bra\u00f1as with stone and straw constructions, and the largest concentration of brown bears in the Iberian Peninsula. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Touring it in a motorhome is the perfect way to respect its surroundings while enjoying total freedom to explore its most special corners.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How to get there and where to park<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The main entrance to the park is from <strong>Belmonte de Miranda<\/strong>, taking the AS-227 road. The road gradually climbs through valleys of breathtaking beauty until you reach <strong>Pola de Somiedo<\/strong>, the central core of the park. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In Pola de Somiedo there is a <strong>municipal motorhome area<\/strong> (\u00c1rea de Pola de Somiedo) with basic water and emptying services. It is the ideal point to establish your base of operations and make excursions from there. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Please note<\/strong>: some tracks inside the park are narrow and unpaved. Check before you go into large motorhomes. <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Somiedo Lakes<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The great treasure of the park are its four glacial lakes: Lago del Valle, Lago La Cueva, Lago Calabazosa and Lago Negro. The most accessible and spectacular is the <strong>Lago del Valle<\/strong>, located at an altitude of about 1,500 metres. To get there, you have to leave the vehicle in the car park at the foot of the track and walk for about 40 minutes. The effort is absolutely worth it: a mirror of water surrounded by bare peaks and alpine meadows of impossible green.   <\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Can you see the brown bear?<\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Somiedo is home to a stable population of brown bears, although seeing them in the wild requires patience, silence and a lot of luck. The best times to try this are sunrise and sunset, especially in autumn when bears move more in search of food. There are local nature tourism companies that organize observation outings with expert guides.  <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Bra\u00f1as and the Teitos<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One of the most unique elements of Somiedo are the <strong>bra\u00f1as<\/strong>, summer villages where the vaqueiros de alzada \u2013 the transhumant cattle breeders of the area \u2013 led their herds for centuries. Many of these villages preserve the <strong>teitos<\/strong>, stone huts with broom-straw roofs that are unique in Europe. The bra\u00f1a of <strong>La Pornacal<\/strong> and that of <strong>Mumi\u00e1n<\/strong> are the most famous and are in perfect condition.  <\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Hiking in the park<\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Somiedo has a network of signposted trails for all levels:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Route to Lago del Valle<\/strong>: 8 km round trip, moderate slope, essential.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Ruta de las Bra\u00f1as<\/strong>: 12 km circular route that connects several bra\u00f1as with teitos.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Route of the Port of Somiedo<\/strong>: for the most demanding, with views of both sides of the mountain range.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Tips for visiting Somiedo by motorhome<\/h2>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The park is especially beautiful in autumn, when the forest is dyed red and yellow.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Scrupulously respect the rules of the park: do not light fires, do not leave waste, do not leave the marked trails.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Fuel supply is limited in the area; Fill up the tank before entering.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Nights in the park are cool even in summer; Provide heating.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Somiedo is not just a destination: it is an experience that changes the way you look at nature.
