The Best Viewpoints in Asturias to Enjoy from Your Motorhome

Asturias has something that few regions in Spain can boast: its best views are not in museums or behind paid tickets. They are on the roadside, at the end of a dirt track, on top of a cliff or on the edge of a mountain pass. And by motorhome, you can approach all of them calmly, park quietly and stay as long as you want contemplating the landscape.

Fito Viewpoint (Arriondas)

Without a doubt one of the most famous and rightly so. Located at an altitude of 603 metres in the municipality of Parres, the Mirador del Fito offers an absolutely unique 360-degree view: on the one hand, the Cantabrian coast with its beaches and cliffs; on the other, the imposing wall of the Picos de Europa covered with snow in winter and grey rock in summer. On clear days, the feeling is that of being suspended between the mountains and the sea.

There is a small parking lot at the viewpoint where standard-sized motorhomes can be accessed. Access is via a narrow but well-paved mountain road from Arriondas.

Viewpoint of Tazones

The town of Tazones, in the municipality of Villaviciosa, is known for being the place where Charles I of Spain landed in 1517. But its viewpoint, located on the cape overlooking the town, is one of the best-kept secrets of the central Asturian coast. From here you can see the cliffs of the Villaviciosa estuary, the lighthouse and the coast to the east. The village has a large parking lot at the entrance perfectly suitable for motorhomes.

Pico Villuera Viewpoint (Ponga)

For those who venture inland, the council of Ponga holds some of the wildest landscapes in Asturias. Access to Pico Villuera and its natural viewpoints offers views over the Beyos gorge and the valleys of the Sella river. It is an area that is not very crowded, ideal for enjoying solitude and authentic nature.

Santa Marina viewpoint (Tapia de Casariego)

At the western end of the Asturian coast, near the border with Galicia, the Mirador de Santa Marina in Tapia de Casariego offers a magnificent perspective over the estuary and the cliffs of the Costa Verde. The municipality of Tapia is known in the world of surfing and has a well-signposted motorhome area at the entrance to the village.

Many Asturian viewpoints are accessed by narrow secondary roads. Before heading to any of them, check the width and maximum height allowed for your vehicle.
