The Best Beaches in Asturias to Go by Motorhome

Asturias has more than 200 beaches. Most of them are unknown to the general public, wild, clean and surrounded by green cliffs that fall into the Bay of Biscay. Many have large car parks or overnight areas nearby that make them perfect destinations for motorhome travellers looking for that secret corner where they can wake up to the sound of the sea.

Here is a selection of the best Asturian beaches to enjoy from your motorhome.

Peñarronda Beach (Castropol)

At the western end of Asturias, very close to the border with Galicia, Peñarronda Beach is one of those places that only slow travelers get to discover. With almost 600 meters of golden sand, it is located in a protected natural area and is known for the large rounded rock – “La Peña” – that gives the place its name.

The best thing for motorhome owners is that it has a large car park just a few metres from the beach, from which an easy access road takes you directly to the sand. In addition, nearby there are catering services and the Peñarronda Beach Campsite for those who want to extend several days.

Vega Beach (Ribadesella)

On the eastern Asturian coast, Playa de Vega is a little-known gem that combines natural beauty and surfing. Its waves have made it a meeting point for water sports lovers, but it is also perfect for walking, sunbathing and disconnecting. A curiosity: numerous fossils have been found in the rocks that surround it, which makes it even more interesting for geology enthusiasts.

Near the beach there is the Playa de Vega Campsite, with a service area for motorhomes and all the necessary amenities for a stay of several days.

Playa del Silencio (Cudillero)

Its name says it all. Playa del Silencio, in the municipality of Cudillero, is one of the most magical corners of the entire Asturian coast. Surrounded by cliffs that protect it from the wind and mass tourism, this small cove of stones and dark sand can only be visited on foot from the car park set up in the upper part. The walk down takes about 20 minutes, but the reward is to find yourself in a place that seems to be taken from another era.

There is ample parking in the upper part suitable for motorhomes. Overnight stays are not allowed in the car park itself, but a few kilometres away you have the areas of Cudillero.

Torimbia Beach (Llanes)

Famous for its perfect shell shape and for being a naturist beach, Torimbia is listed as one of the most beautiful in Spain. To access it, you have to park in the area set up at the top and go down on foot. The views from the way down are already spectacular.

In the surroundings of Llanes there are several well-signposted and fully serviced municipal motorhome areas, making this stretch of coast one of the favourites of motorhomers visiting Asturias.

Salinas Beach (Avilés)

If you are looking for a beach with all the services and good communication, Salinas Beach is your option. Spacious, with a blue flag and perfectly equipped, it is the urban beach of reference in the region of Avilés. Nearby is a Salinas motorhome area with capacity for up to 15 vehicles, with access to drinking water, electricity and drainage, and just minutes from the promenade.

Basic rules for motorhome owners on Asturian beaches

It is important to remember that in Asturias spending the night is not the same as camping. You can sleep in your motorhome in car parks where it is not explicitly prohibited, but you cannot deploy awnings, tables, chairs or any outdoor element that involves camping.
